May 5th, 2020 Scavenger Hunt!

Let's Dive Deeper!

Hopefully you're spending a little time reading each day. I know I am! I have been reading a lot of stuff these past few weeks. I am reading a super hero novel, a non-fiction book, a lot of cookbooks, and a graphic novel. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in the "story" and wanting to know what happens next, I forget to really READ the book. Sometimes it's fun to slow down and really notice and enjoy how a book is written or illustrated. One day this week during your SSR (Silent Sustained Reading), DEAR (Drop Everything and Read), or read aloud with a family member, take a couple of minutes to do a BOOK SCAVENGER HUNT!

What Is A Book Scavenger Hunt?

A Book Scavenger Hunt makes us slow down and notice things other than the main action of the story. We can notice hidden treasures in the illustrations. Sometimes we'll notice funny jokes we might have missed. We can notice how alike (or different!) we are from a character. We might realize that parts of the setting are familiar to you. We can learn even more about the books we read when we slow down and look for specific things.

How Do We Do It?

You can use any book or magazine or any other printed material. You can even do this with an audiobook, if  you'd like! I'm attaching two different versions of the Hunt, you can do either or both!

You can print the K-2 version out, or annotate it on your iPad. You can send me a copy or upload it to your classroom, if you want.

The 3-8 version is a Google Form. You will need your book with you when you do the form, and the form doesn't save your progress, so you can't come back to it if you don't finish in one sitting. The Hunt is pretty short, so it shouldn't take long. And it should be fun!
