This Moose Belongs to Me!
It is one of my favorite children's books (I know, I say that every time! But I do sort of love them all!) Oliver Jeffers is a really fun, really silly author and illustrator who has been reading his books on his Instagram feed nearly every day. So please check out This Moose Belongs to Me and while you're there, you can see some of his other books as well! He's been reading books nearly every day, and some times with guest stars!
I love This Moose Belongs to Me because it's all about PERSPECTIVE and how we see the world. It's funny- both to grownups and children alike, I think. Our family read this book A LOT. We have a number of his books, but this one gets pulled out most often.
Sometimes Oliver Jeffers uses old paintings and makes collages out of them, and then draws on top of them. I think it makes his books really interesting and layered. And the art in this book is truly breathtaking. The painter who painted the mountains and rivers in this book, Alexander Dzigurski, was from a country called Yugoslavia and painted where he lived, but they really remind me of Montana or North Dakota... What do you think? Does it remind you of somewhere you've been?
Watch the video below and then, if you are inspired, Mr. Jeffers will teach you how to draw your own Marcel! Or, if you'd rather, you can download a coloring sheet instead!
